About Pear Orchard
Netarhat, located 3,800 feet above sea level, is widely known for its lush Pear Orchards that produce the Asian pear (Pyrus pyrifolia), locally called “Nashpati.”
More than a decade ago, the Latehar district administration initiated an experimental plantation on 65 acres of government land — a project that flourished beyond expectations.
Today, the indigenous tribal farmers cultivate these succulent fruits on their own land, earning between ₹70,000 and ₹1,00,000 annually. The region’s high altitude and cool climate make it ideal for growing not only pears but also strawberries, guavas, apples, and pomegranates.
The orchards are a beautiful blend of scenic greenery and agricultural heritage, offering visitors a refreshing rural tourism experience.
These orchards stand as a model of sustainable livelihood and community-driven eco-tourism, representing the harmony between people and nature that defines Netarhat’s identity.
